Dr. Robert Higgins was selected to serve as the next president and chief academic officer of RUSH University, where he will be responsible for advancing and elevating the institution's healthcare education and research capabilities. He also was named senior vice president and chief academic officer of RUSH, where he will lead academic and clinical integration, ensuring alignment of clinical programs with the University.

Dr. Wilson Szeto has been appointed chief of the division of cardiovascular surgery at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. He also serves as a Julian Johnson II Professor of Surgery, at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, and as STS Board secretary.

Dr. Lana Schumacher has been appointed chief of thoracic surgery and director of the Center of Innovation at Tufts Medical Center. Before joining Tufts, she served as director of the Robotic Thoracic Surgery MGH Network, assistant professor at Temple University, and director of thoracic robotic surgery at Allegheny Health Network.

Dr. Michael Ma was named division chief of pediatric heart surgery at the Betty Irene Moore Children’s Heart Center at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health. He also serves as the surgical director of the Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Therapies (PACT) Program and as a cardiothoracic surgeon for the Pulmonary Artery Reconstruction Program at Stanford Medicine Children’s Health.

Dr. Christopher Phillips, cardiovascular surgeon, Ascension Providence Rochester, was named a finalist in Cardiac Surgery Innovation category of the 2024 Global Cardiovascular Award, presented by Cardiovascular News. He is being honored for his work in CryoNerve Ablation as a component of cERAS for heart surgery patients.

Dr. David McCormack, a cardiothoracic surgeon, was appointed as an honorary professor at the Te Huataki Waiora School of Health at the University of Waikato in New Zealand. Dr. McCormack will be responsible for advising and enhancing the school’s multidisciplinary health education streams.
