The 61st STS Annual Meeting will take place in person Friday, Jan. 24 – Sunday, Jan. 26, 2025 at the Los Angeles Convention Center (West Building) in Los Angeles, California.
An extensive pre-conference program will be available on Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025.
No. STS 2025 will take place in person only. The meeting will not be live-streamed.
Yes. In-person registration includes access to Annual Meeting Online, the recorded archive of the meeting. The recorded sessions will be available within one month of the event and remain accessible for one year.
Yes, it will be available for purchase starting in March 2025.
Exclusive discounted rates are available when you reserve your hotel through the Society’s room block. Book early as certain hotels have limited availability. You must register for the Annual Meeting before reserving a room in the STS room block.
The headquarters hotel for STS 2025 is the JW Marriott L.A. LIVE. More information can be found on the Annual Meeting Registration & Hotel website.
Most of the STS hotels are located within walking distance of the Los Angeles Convention Center. Shuttle service will be provided from only the Hotel Indigo Los Angeles Downtown and the InterContinental Los Angeles Downtown.

Yes. The Annual Meeting includes a selection of hands-on courses on a range of topics in cardiothoracic surgery, as well as three pre-meeting symposia (Thursday, Jan. 23, 2025). These can be added during the registration process and require additional fees. It is possible to attend a pre-conference symposium only, though rates are lower for STS 2025 registrants. Hands-on courses are only available as an add-on to meeting registration.
Attire is business professional. Wear comfortable shoes and bring layers, as the temperature in meeting rooms may be cold. The attire for Sunday is casual - no suits and ties! Instead, all are encouraged to dress comfortably and casually, including sneakers and jeans.

A printed schedule-at-glance will be distributed at registration, and agendas will be displayed on signs throughout the convention center. However, these will not reflect the latest changes to the program. For this reason, all attendees are urged to download the STS Events app for easy access to the full agenda, e-posters, news about dining options, floor plans and area maps, a customizable schedule and more.

Yes, the Los Angeles Convention Center is fully operational and ready to host the STS Annual Meeting as scheduled. Visit the Los Angeles Convention Center website for the latest information.
Hotels in the Los Angeles area are open and welcoming guests. The city’s hospitality industry continues to prioritize guest safety and comfort. STS is in frequent contact with hotels where it has reserved room blocks, and others near the Convention Center. We will provide updates if there are changes in operations, room availability, or health protocols.
Yes. It’s business as usual in downtown Los Angeles. Restaurants, museums, and other venues are open, and professional sporting events and the Grammy Awards are all moving forward in the area where STS 2025 will be held.
Yes, Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) is operational, with normal flight schedules. For up-to-date information, check the LAX website or your carrier.
Ground transportation options, including taxis, ride-sharing services (e.g., Uber, Lyft), buses, and the Metro system, are operating as usual. A few bus lines in the areas of the wildfires have been impacted, but these are far removed from downtown LA. Visit Metro | Bus, Rail, Subway, Bike & Micro in Los Angeles for information.
According to government sources, air quality in downtown Los Angeles is currently within safe levels. Air quality can fluctuate due to environmental factors.
The Los Angeles Convention Center is a LEED Gold EB-OM certified venue. Industry standard air filters are used throughout the building to ensure a high quality of air circulation, and indoor air quality is consistently monitored throughout the day. Currently, at least one interior air purge is being conducted daily.
STS will provide N95 masks upon request to meeting attendees concerned about air quality.
STS has established the “Society of Thoracic Surgeons Los Angeles Wildfire Response Fund” to provide emergency assistance, medical support, and disaster relief.
Contributions from the STS community will provide immediate support to the emergency response efforts of Direct Relief and United Way of Greater Los Angeles.

We have been in ongoing communications with LA city officials. They tell us the best way we can support recovery efforts is to move forward with STS 2025. Hotels, suppliers, and the Convention Center team continue to safely operate. They assure us the air quality in downtown LA is safe, and we are not taking away hotel rooms or other resources from citizens or first responders in need.
STS will issue refunds for registrants who are unable to attend the meeting or choose not to attend.

Advance registration is strongly recommended, however onsite registration will be available every day, Thursday, Jan. 23, through Sunday, Jan. 26. Registering in advance assures you a discounted rate.

STS will honor the presidency of Jennifer C. Romano, MD, MS, at a special event on Saturday, Jan. 25, 7-9:30 p.m. PT. Enjoy delicious hors d’oeuvres, sip drinks, and celebrate the past year’s successes amidst a majestic backdrop of North American wildlife dioramas that festoon the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Complimentary shuttles will transport attendees from STS hotels and the convention center. Purchase a ticket when registering for the meeting; don’t delay, as space is limited.
The Awards Breakfast will take place Friday, Jan. 24, 2025, 6:30 a.m. - 7:45 a.m. PT. The event is open to all meeting registrants, but a ticket is required and can be purchased during Annual Meeting registration.
Hands-On Courses, the President’s Reception, three new pre-conference symposia, and the Extraordinary Women in Cardiothoracic Surgery Awards Breakfast each require an additional ticket that can be purchased during Annual Meeting registration. STS members receive a discount on the educational courses offered as add-ons.
The STS Annual Meeting offers complimentary coat check and bag check near registration.
